The unique world of the famous movie inspired the well-known nightclub of Budapest, Orfeum, too. On 28 May, The Great Gatsby is about to throw a never-to-be-forgotten party which will guide us back to the 1920’s.
For the sake of the unlucky ones who have not seen the 2013 movie with Leonardo DiCaprio as the protagonist: The Great Gatsby is a romantic drama, based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel of the same title, a story of the wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for a beautiful young lady, Daisy Buchanan. It is set in the Jazz Age, a time that New York Times noted “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession”.
The captivating atmosphere of the movie gave Orfeum the idea to throw a spectacular party at the end of May, not for the first and hopefully not for the last time. The club is a perfect place for an event like this; with its cuddly armchairs, special drinks and intimate, cozy interior, it attempts to re-create the old music and atmosphere of the once-famous cabaret clubs.

This time, on 28 May, the Long Island of the mad and thrilling 1920’s will be evoked. The role of the host of the evening, the great Gatsby himself will be played by Olivér Berkes, a young Hungarian singer who first entertained the audience and became famous as participant of the talent show, Voice. Besides his and his two fellow singers’, Helén Gondi’s and Zsófia Kállai-Kiss’ solos and duets, a number of talented dancers will entertain the guests.
Spectacular performances, sexy costumes and a mixture of modern songs and classic melodies will guide us through the „smoky”, decadent and yet alluring era, and for one night, „everything is allowed”. Some say that the past is always present, and the lucky guests of The Great Gatsby Show will now be able to experience one of the wildest, filthiest and most exciting parts of it.
