Best reason to visit Budapest Zoo
Posted by Ágnes Taraszovics · Feb 24, 2015

Finally! Spring, the season of sunshine, blooming flowers and baby animals is coming. To celebrate these wonders of nature,  you absolutely have to check out the Zoo if you were in Budapest!

All the more so because, due to the continuous development, last year “Holnemvolt” Park has been handed over, and the year before the so called “Magic mountain” (which is so big that I have not managed to fully explore it during the three previous times I’ve been there.)

And it’s keep getting better: in spring 2015 koalas will move to the Budapest Zoo! The establishment of an “Australian zone” has been going on for almost 20 years. The first runs has been built in 1997 for the emus, while the new Australian House opened its doors in 2010, then in 2011 arrived the wombats, in 2013 the marsupial martens and also the echidna. In 2014 an Australian path has been developed as part of the Australian zone, where the audience might as well walk among the emus and Bennett kangaroos. And of course, this is where the animal house, where koalas will move in some month is seated.

In addition to the koalas, other enhancements are planned: the government supports the development of the zoo with twenty-five billion forints. In the place of the old amusement park a new area called Pannonia Park will be established, which is trying to recall the past Carpathian Basin wildlife.

Budapest Zoo will be 150 years old next year, has attracted about a hundred million visitors the last hundred years, and became the most visited cultural attraction in Hungary. Due to the developments, in 2016 a Fairytale themed park will be handed over and Pannonia Park is expected to be completed by the 2018-2019 season.
