Big coffee house overview – part 1.

In Budapest there is a huge culture of the cafés and this whole world. 2 centuries ago all the young men was fond of these places: they read the latest newspaper, smoked cigarettes and there was a lively debate about public life. Fortunately, many of these coffee houses are still open these days, and preserved this peacetime atmosphere.

Centrál Coffee house

It was founded in 1887 and became a real intellectual hub by the first decades of the last century, visited by writers and iconic actors. Although the lack of the greats of the 20th century is difficult to compensate, Centrál is still one of our best cafés, with divine cakes, pastries and the best of Hungarian cuisine.

New York Coffee house

New York is more than a coffee shop: it is the heart of our literary life. It is the most famous café house of Budapest and the most beautiful in the world. If you are looking for a little aristocratic mood, come and indulge in an authentic 19th century coffee experience in the glittering gold and marble environment with a majestic ambience and true traditions.

Ruszwurm

Ruszwurm is the oldest confectionery-café combination in Budapest. The interior revives the atmosphere of the 1920s salons, while the cakes help us remember that dieting is a very sad thing to do.

Gerbeaud Confectionary

Gerbeaud is one of our emblematic places, and is also one of the most famous confectionery and café in Budapest. In its interior there are three types of materials - marble, gold and wood - enlivening a piece of elegant Budapest from the early twentieth century.

Alexandra Coffee house

Alexandra is located on the first floor of the bookstore with the same name. The Lotz hall has its luxurious interior design and the closeness of books makes this café a really unique place. It’s like a cathedral: full of frescoes and antique candlesticks, just with divine coffee.
