A favorite band: Ivan & the Parazol

Hungary’s popular indie-rock group, Ivan & the Parazol is getting to be known in Europe and the United States as well.

This year was already their second time at the world’s most important showcase festival, the South by Southwest Festival (SXSW), Austin, Texas. The popularity of the band has been growing ever since their very first hit, “Take my hand” came out, a famous song which you probably know if you are into indie music.

Their international success just grew faster when “Take my hand” was chosen by SXSW for their 2014 promo song.

The Budapest-based band was formed in 2010 by Iván Vitáris (vocals), Máté Balla (guitars), János Tarnai (bass), István Beke (keyboards) and Bálint Simon (drums). Their 21st century beat music mostly incorporates influences from the 1960s and the 1970s, which is also obvious on their inimitable style of clothing.

Last night’s concert in Budapest, Akvarium Club was full of energy and power. The guys made every single girl and boy rock ’n’ roll in the audience and it is no surprise. Hearing their best songs live is really a knock-out and not just for the music itself. Everything they do is very organic: from each and every sound, through the lyrics, the style, their clothing and the way they rock on the stage. Ivan’s voice is captivating in the atmosphere the band creates, which made me feel: oh my god, this guy is a little bit of Jim Morrison with a little bit of young Mick Jagger. Go Ivan & the Parazol, I will surely be there next time too. Will you?
