The Museum of Fine Arts of Budapest, as part of Liget Budapest Project, will be reconstructed. If you would like to visit the museum in the near future, you have a chance to do that till 15 February.

The museum closes for 3 years in the middle of February, reconstruction of the iconic neo-Renaissance and neo-Classicist building built at the beginning of the 20th century, according to the plans, ends in 2018. Other renovation efforts have been carried out on the building before, too, the latest was the renewal of the front of the building in 2008.

During the reconstruction, the main pieces of the collection of the museum will be displayed in the permanent exhibition of the Hungarian National Gallery. Some of the permanent exhibitions will close even earlier than 15 February; the Egyptian Collection and the permanent exhibition on European sculpture will only be on display until 1 February. After the opening of the redeveloped building, the collection will be reorganised along a new concept and put on display at a new permanent exhibition.

Visiting the museum before the renovation is not only a good idea because it’ll be closed soon, but also because it awaits visitors with extended programs and events before 15 February. You can participate in weekend guided tours, chamber concerts, a family day, a “museum time travel” or a costume ball recalling the Dutch Golden Ages.
