First vegan pub in Budapest opened its doors

Szabad Bistro combines the conscious lifestyle with the best traditions of the gastronomic revolution.

Although there are more and more places in the country where you can eat food without ingredients of animal origin, there are only a few places where you can sit in for a drink or a coffee in this spirit. Especially because the non-vegan part of a larger group can be easily discouraged by the ideology. The owner of Szabad (Free) Bistro decided to open a place, where the atmosphere is relaxed and inclusive, and where they give special attention not only to the menu, but also to the beverage list.

In this case, we have to take „vegan pub” literally: even alcoholic beverages have to meet the expectation, and only those kinds are available that has no ingredients of animal origin in them. Baileys only available in the almond version, pálinka from Savanya distillery, gluten-free IPA of Mad Scientist and the beers of Pivovar. We can also ask for a Mojito, which comes with a biodegradable straw, and coffee with almond milk pressed by themselves.

They also have street food selection: paninis, bagels, coleslaw, vegan Hortobágy-style pancake and tiramisu, for example. It’s also important that as they want to produce as little waste as possible, we cannot ask the food take away unless we bring our own box. On the other hand, the kitchen is open until ten o'clock in the evening, so Szabad Bistro is perfectly suitable for a late night dinner and some drinks in the evening.
