Refurbishment begins on tramlines 4-6

Some important information for all those who use the public transport or drive in the city centre of Budapest.

Summer is not only the season of so much outdoor fun, visiting lidos, enjoying a nice ice cream or a cold beer in a ruin bar but also a lot of refurbishment work is scheduled for this season in Budapest.

Now, for example, the section of tramlines 4-6 between the Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd and the Karinthy Frigyes út will be modernised. More precisely, the old rails will be replaced by new ones which are easier to maintain - Centre for Budapest Transport writes in their announcement.

Important changes expected

Preparation works have begun on 11 June. And although the refurbishment happens at the Buda side of the city, it will cause some important changes. From 15 June, trams will take passengers between Széll Kálmán tér (Square) and the Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd. From there, replacement buses will run between the Buda side bridgehead and Móricz Zsigmond körtér or Újbuda-központ.

As we have already mentioned, there is a preparation phase, from 11 to 14 June. In this phase and in the third one, which comes from 15 July to 5 August, replacement buses will replace the trams between Corvin-negyed and ‘Dél-Budai végállomások’. That means the terminals in South Buda: Móricz Zsigmond körtér or Újbuda-központ, depending on which tram, 4 or 6 you take.

If you would decide to choose your car and drive instead of using the trams and replacement buses this summer, please note that there may be some traffic restrictions in the area of Buda side bridgehead of Petőfi híd, Corvin-negyed and Baross utca.

But let us tell you a good alternative for trams: Centre for Budapest Transport suggests you to use the metro line 4 as another possible transport option between South Buda and the city centre.
