Budapest Festival Orchestra among top 10 in the world

BBC’s Classical Music magazine compiled the best symphony orchestras across the globe – the Budapest Festival Orchestra is also included.

The well-known and popular Budapest Festival Orchestra has been chosen among the top 10 symphony orchestras in the world by Classical Music magazine published by the BBC. They shared their compilation in alphabetical order so it’s not really a list, but anyway, it is a fantastic achievement from a Hungarian ensemble to be among the best of the bests.

In their article, the publication highlights that under the lead of its director of music Iván Fischer, the orchestra became one of Europe’s most important ensembles.

‘Fischer is a dynamic leader and refuses to play by the book – which is why he gets the results he does. The BFO has break-out groups specialising in period instruments, contemporary music and Balkan folk which gives his players musical freedoms that in turn feeds back into the main ensemble’ – they write.

Congratulations to the Budapest Festival Orchestra for this absolutely fantastic result.
