SPECTACULAR DESIGN FOR HUNGARIAN EURO
Posted by Eszter Hermann · Feb 21, 2015

Though the controversial euro is not (yet) the Hungarian currency, there is already a fantastic, totally different concept for this fictional currency – take a look at the design created by a Hungarian university student, Barbara Bernát.

This design is basically Barbara’s master’s project, she’sbeen studying graphic design at the University of West Hungary. She created a series of fictional Hungarian euros, banknotes with beautiful and elegant illustrations of European plants and animals. Protected animals are depicted on one side, the flipside is covered by plants. The animals represent the growth of the value and the size of each banknote grows according to the increase of the denomination.

The fictional banknotes have an interesting mix of both minimalistic and very complex design – they don’t feature much besides the drawings, yet these themselves are very detailed. Barbara made ten etched plates and used the complex incision printing method, the same one used for printing money. The illustrations started as drawings and evolved into copperplate etchings, which she used to imitate the intaglio printing process actually used to print money.
