Geishas by the Danube - The influence of Japanese culture on Hungarian art

In Western countries - including Hungary – the keen interest on Japan’s culture started in the mid-19th century. Japan's figures and motifs decorated the fashionable ceramics of the era, and the kimono was obligatory part of every lady's wardrobe. This is the first ever exhibition to explore the history of Japonism in Hungary, with the use of fine art from the turn of the century and original Japanese and Chinese artefacts that served European artists with models.

Szín-Játék - The Chinese theater in pictures

The exhibition is inspired by the traditional Chinese theater - known as "Chinese opera". China never had “theaters” in the European or western sense. The traditional Chinese theater is basically built on the vocals - that's why we call it "Chinese opera". The Szín-játék exhibition is the essence of these stage performances. The colorful ink drawings depicts great figures of Chinese theater in a symbolic moment.
