Bicycle path to be built between Budapest and Lake Balaton

There is already a cycling path around Lake Balaton but it will be also possible to get to the lake on bike from Budapest soon.

A cycling path between Budapest and Lake Balaton becomes reality in a couple of months: it will be ready for the summer of 2019, government commissioner for cycling Máriusz Révész said recently. So in two years, we can get to the ‘Hungarian sea’ by bike, too.

The path will be more than 100 kilometres long and it will cost between 8 and 10 billion forints (26-32 million euros) to build. The new cycling path will become part of the EuroVelo 14 Route, which was recently approved in Brussels.

A lot of bike fans already know that there is already a cycling path around Lake Balaton – well, the good news is that this will be refurbished, too. So if you visit Hungary, you might leave your car in Budapest in a guarded parking lot, and organize a 4-5-day bike trip to any destination at the Lake Balaton. See you rolling there in 2019! ;)
