It is part of a museum, so it helps preserve some historical memories but the Roman Hall of the Museum of Fine Arts has a rich history itself, as well. It was severely damaged during the Second World War and has been closed since then – it has been functioning as storage for the Museum of Fine Arts. Quite derogative faith for one of the most beautiful halls of the museum, isn’t it?

Luckily, it is not the end though. Because the whole museum has been going through a complete renovation since 2015, and a decision has been made to renew also the famous Roman Hall. 70 restorers, 1500 litres of preservative liquid and 5.5 kilos of golden plates were needed to the refurbishment, writes WeLoveBudapest.hu.

The whole edifice will be reopened in October with an astonishing Leonardo-exhibit but visitors will be able to see the renewed Roman Hall free of charge from 15 March to Easter (1 April).
