Budapest Photo Festival presents: David Lynch

The biggest photography event in Hungary has exciting programs this year.

Budapest Photo Festival is something we eagerly wait during the whole year: the biggest photography event in Hungary. The aim of Budapest Photo Festival is to present the international contemporary scene, by the program of the International Cultural Institutes, beside the exhibitions of the biggest galleries, museums and art schools of the Hungarian Capital. This is the feast of photography, contemporary artists and love of art, with the aim to create Budapest to be the „city of photography”, and this year we think it will succeed.

In 2019 the event series opens with a real gem: with the living legend of American independent movie making, the great director, screenwriter, painter and musician, the one and only David Lynch. The atmosphere of this unique collection is created by the glow of invisible coherences, the surfacing of hidden feelings and the blossoming of unleashed fantasy. Surrealism, esotery and the American way or visualizing anxiety and violence in an artistic and pop manner – this is what Lynch’s work is about. The Small Stories collection is a psychedelic journey beyond reality into the world of emotions, humor, playfulness and restlessness, shedding light also on memories and wounds.

The festival has another highlighted exhibition as a frame: a Hungarian contemporary overview. For this exhibition, Budapest Photo Festival chose a classic genre as an inspiration: this time, the organizers were looking for works that interpret or redefine the landscape genre, or continue along well-established, traditional lines. Pictures that fit into the broader concept of landscape photography. The Festival also involves many public programs: lectures, workshops, photomarathon, museum educational events, portfolio review and photobook show, what will place at the Festivalcenter Budapest Project Gallery.
